Art as Solidarity

April 23 – July 31, 2022
Audubon Terrace. Broadway between 155th & 156th Streets.
Daily 12:00-6:00pm

Art as Solidarity is an ongoing series of artworks by Andrea Arroyo. They are created in response to contemporary societal issues that we face collectively on a daily basis, such as immigration, civil and gender rights, displacement, violence, international conflicts, and the environmental crisis.

The works, centering around community concerns, reflect universal values of love, justice, equality and peace, and they aim to build bridges across borders, languages and cultures, and to generate a dialogue about issues that are relevant at both the local and global levels.

These images bear witness to daily injustices and political upheavals. While they document our current turbulent times, they also celebrate the beauty and resilience of the most vulnerable communities. These images inspire reflection, empower individuals, and build communities to create change, by raising their voices in empathy, in solidarity and in love.

Arroyo says “Art can change the world and beauty is revolutionary.”
