
Contemporary Art Initiatives
The Hispanic Society has a long history of exhibiting contemporary art going back to the blockbuster Joaquin Sorolla exhibition of 1909. Carrying on that legacy, the musem regularly invites local and international contemporary artists to dialogue with our historic collections.
A Collection in Dialogue: Each spring, the Hispanic Society invites a contemporary artist to exhibit new work in conversation with our historic collection. The exhibitions take place in our Beaux-Arts Main Court and pair the contemporary pieces with the masterworks from the Hispanic Society that inspired them. Artists featured in this series include Enrique Martinez Celaya and Adriana Varejao.

Art on Audubon Terrace: Together with the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA), the Hispanic Society chooses a contemporary artist to produce an installation to be exhibited on Audubon Terrace during the summer months. Read more about this series here
