What Are You Looking At?: Identities Across Borders

What Are You Looking At?: Identities Across Borders? is a program for teens that the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Madrid has been running since 2004. This year the Hispanic Society was invited to participate for the theme Identidades Transfronterizas [Identities Across Borders], which brings together teens from three cities and three museums: Madrid (Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza ), Santiago de Chile (The Museum of Visual Arts) and our very own New York City (The Hispanic Society Museum & Library). Students interacted digitally with their international counterparts learning about the museum collections and simultaneously answering questions like “What things make me who I am?” and “What things do we have in common?”

The culminating session, inspired by the Airmail Paintings of Chilean artist Eugenio Dittborn, included students painting images of their identities on a textile that had previously been worked on in Madrid and in Santiago de Chile.
