DISCOVERY OF THE OVERLOOKED: RUTH M. ANDERSON’S PHOTOGRAPHS OF ASTURIAS FOR THE HISPANIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA, 1925

Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos, Oviedo, Spain.
July 17, 2018–January 20, 2019

This exhibition of more than 100 photographs taken by the Hispanic Society photographer Ruth Matilda Anderson documents life in the region of Asturias in 1925. She had come to the region to record life there, as the museum’s founder Archer M. Huntington sought to build up its photographic collection.

Captured forever and exhibited here for the first time, Anderson’s images offer a remarkable vision of a lost world, a true discovery of the overlooked.
